The previous owner never contended with rain... Before getting the right thermostat, one of his cooling solutions was to make these nice scoops in the hood. Unfortunately, they were not compatible with driving in Seattle!
I'd been helping a friend glass a boat, so I was kind of dying to try my own project. I got a great tip to use thick weatherstripping to create lightweight channels for extra rigidity - it worked great!
I screwed some lightweight cardboard and plastic sheet on the top of the hood to maintain the right curvature, and then my boat friend helped glass over the holes. I used wood fiber in the epoxy as a filler so I would have an easier time sanding it smooth. Still not an easy job!
It came out alright, but I needed a hood back on the car before I could put on a nice smooth skim-coat. Quick prime and rattlecan black... voila, great looks at 20 feet!
